A Mikvah must be filled with 'living waters' from a flowing source that has never been dormant, such as fresh spring water, rainwater, or even melted snow. The water is kept under strict hygienic control, being cleaned daily and chlorinated. Immersion in the Mikvah has its roots in the Torah. The Mikvah has been a powerful symbol of life and rebirth for over three millennia. The word 'Mikvah' means 'hope.' It affirms Jewish continuity and is a central feature of Jewish family life.
